aTimbuk2messenger bag with an Iron Horse Maverick 3.0 backpack The Iron Horse Bicycle Company was a bicycle manufacturer in Islandia, New York, in the United States, from 1987 through 2009. Its logo featured a prancing horse on a mustard-colored crest, which was close to the Ferrarilogo in appearance. Iron Horse marketed a variety of bicycles, including racing and mountain bikes, but mostly downhill, freeride, and all-mountain bikes. Riders on the Iron Horse were Dave Cullinan, Kim Sonier, Penny Davidson, Toby Henderson, Leigh Donovan, Pete Loncarevic, and many other talented individuals.

Cullinan won the World Championships in downhill skiing in 1992, and Sam Hill won the World Championships in skiing in 2007 and 2010.

It owes creditors and patent holders a total of US $5 million dollars.

The name was created from the initials of its developer, Dave Weagle, who works as a mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry.

Dorel Industries purchased Iron Horse for US $5.2 million on July 15, 2009, after previously acquiring GT, Cannondale, Schwinn, and Mongoose bicycle brands.

That portrays Iron Horse in an unnecessarily good light, in my opinion. They had been successful at one point, but they eventually drove themselves into the ground in a disastrous manner, and they were forced to sell their inventory and brand name to Dorel as a result of bankruptcy. Apart from the Iron Horse trademark and a large number of unsold motorcycles and parts, they had nothing left to offer at that stage in their business. It appears that almost every single MKIII frame they have produced has failed due to a design flaw.

They ended up with around $20 million in debt as a result of their failure to pay their suppliers and their deception of other suppliers into supplying things they had no intention of paying for.

Following the transfer of inventory to the CEO’s son’s firm (Randall Scott Cycles) in order for him to earn money selling the bikes direct for less than the stores, they lost a large number of bike shops as dealers as a result of this.

Iron Horse Sunday Reborn – A Classic Downhill Bike Modified with Modern Geometry & Mullet Wheels

DW-Link suspension was developed by Dave Weagle and introduced by Iron Horse in 2004. It was a departure from the previous Horst-Link SGS model and quickly became a cult classic. Developed during Sam Hill’s reign of domination, Hill and the Sunday became a legendary team with their bursts of splendor on two wheels and shiny green paint, which made them a favorite among the public. Because of its established qualities, the Sunday, like the Intense M1 before the turn of the century, has become a familiar sight among privateers competing in the World Cup of Racing.

  1. Riders praised Pivot Cycles’ original Phoenix downhill frame for drawing inspiration from the Iron Horse race on Sunday and attempting to resurrect the spirit of the original Iron Horse fans.
  2. We shouldn’t be surprised that we’re still talking about downhill racing hero Sam Hill and the extinction of Iron Horse today, or how riders hope for a Sunday with more modern geometry given all of the mystery surrounding the two events.
  3. Height: 340 millimeters 62.5 degrees is the angle of the head.
  4. His objective was to create a Sunday frame that had his preferred geometry while still being compatible with a 29″ front wheel and a 27.5″ rear wheel.
  5. We got in touch with Julian to ask him a few questions about what inspired him to take on this project, what obstacles he encountered along the road, and what he wants to do with the bike now that it has been resurrected.
  6. How did you become into mountain biking, and what led you to that point in your life?
  7. I had no idea how much I would enjoy it until I tried it.

I was riding my bike at a bike park a couple of days after I received it and had a major collision.

I started running as a pre-runner when I was thirteen years old, and I competed in my first Austrian National events in 2011.

Iron Horse Sunday has always had a pleasing appearance to me.

That is evident from the fact that Sam Hill completely demolished every track with those bikes.

And, because those particular motorcycles are no longer in production, I wanted to breathe fresh life into an old one.

Let’s fast forward to 2020 and the COVID initiative.

I had some extra cash on hand and figured, why not?

It’s all about the emotion and the intensity.

It was stocked with spare linkages, derailleur hangers, and anything else you’d need to start again on Sunday.

During the pre-welding process, I came across a single front triangle that needed to be repaired.

This was mine and my welder’s first time trying something like this.

I am really fortunate to have friends who are skilled welders of aluminum who simply ask for a case of beer in exchange for their services.

What elements of the original frame did you have to change in order to re-use them?

This includes the head tube and seat tube, as well as the CNC component connection to the bottom bracket and the gusset connecting the seat tube to the top tube for the front triangle.

Afterwards, I placed an order for some tubes for the main frame and rear triangle, so that the bike could fit a 27.5″ rear tire.

These alloys, including as 7020, 7005, 6061, and 6069, are not commonly used in Austrian industry.

Additionally, while I was at it, I modified the geometry of the front triangle.

Are you a welder or a machinist in your professional life?

Perhaps I might consider pursuing a career in this field!

Experimenting with geometry, materials, and other variables may be rather enjoyable, in my opinion.

They assisted me in bringing this work of art to fruition as a reality.

There was no distortion that I saw.

The large welds were completed without the frame being placed in the jig.

By this point, the second prototype had already been built.

The geo was quite strange, but the ride was fine.

But, thanks to the new frame, we were able to resolve everything.

No, I would not say that.

If I had had to manufacture all of the pieces myself, the project would have been far more costly.

Those sections, on the other hand, could not have been appropriate for downhill usage.

What kind of a slant did that give you?

I came upon a story regarding the “Rockshox Lyxxer” while doing some research.

For a while, it looked like I might be able to salvage some crowns from the new C1 Boxxer, but sadly, the spacing between the stanchions was too far apart for my purposes.

The Lyrik spacing was located in the middle of the previous and new Boxxer configurations.

They were made for me by a very good buddy who machined them out of 7075-T6 aluminum.

In combination with 29-inch boost Lyrik/Yari lowers, I utilized the black stanchions from the B1-B2 Boxxer.

I was aiming for an offset of around 48 mm.

The term “massive” is an understatement LOL.

Monster Energy is included in this version.

Plan on riding this bike, or are you thinking about it?

It is the bike of my dreams in every way.

Where do you spend the most of your time riding?

Semmering is around fifty minutes away from my current residence.

I would have given anything to have raced at the Schladming World Cups in 2007, 2008, or 2009.

Particularly in regard to my Sunday!

During the season, I mostly compete in Austrian National and European Cups.

My objective is to qualify for a World Cup with the performance I had on Sunday.

Julian would also like to add the following: “Many thanks to my excellent pals, the welder and the machinist, for their assistance in the construction of this magnificent equipment. Also, thank you to everyone who was a part of the process. What a dream come true!” says the author.

Iron Horse Mountain Bike Review [2022] – Outstanding MTB

ByIron Horse is unquestionably a comprehensive brand. The company does not just cater to high-end and experienced riders, but they also manufacture some of the best entry-level bicycles available on the market today. Our Iron Horse Mountain Bike Review will take you on a journey through the brand’s history and reveal some of the major characteristics that distinguish them from the competition. TheIron Horse Men’s Maverick 2.1 IH22216S 16 Mountain Bikeis one of their most popular models, and it is both affordable and high-quality at a reasonable price.

  • Yes, the sport is expensive, but this is only true when you are just getting started and require all of the necessary equipment.
  • My initial impressions of Iron Horse were overwhelmingly positive the first time I got the opportunity to try the brand.
  • Because some of their budget alternatives are rather unpredictable, they may either hold up or give way depending on your riding style and ability to handle the terrain.
  • If you continue reading, you will learn all that is vital to the brand and will be able to make your own conclusion.

Iron Horse Mountain Bike Review

It should come as no surprise that the brand might be a touch pricey, and as a result, it can be difficult to obtain evaluations regarding the complete company. The Breakdown – Benefits

The suspension systems on the majority of the mountain bikes I evaluated for my Iron Horse Mountain Bike Review were flawlessly balanced. Some of the most difficult terrains that nature may throw at you were made much easier to travel as a result of this. Something like theIron Horse Unity 3.2 27.5′′ Men’s Mountain Bike, for example, is precisely balanced, and it is available in a variety of sizes to make it easy to pick the correct one for your needs. The suspension is notable for the way in which it has an impact on the overall quality of the pedaling.

On the other hand, you may discover that the frame does not always work to your advantage on the lower-end bikes, which may be annoying at times.

Overall Stylish Design

A flawlessly balanced suspension setup was standard on the majority of the bikes I examined for our Iron Horse Mountain Bike Review. Some of the most difficult terrains that nature may throw at you were made much easier to travel as a result of this technique. It’s easy to locate the proper size with something like theIron Horse Unity 3.2 27.5′′ Men’s Mountain Bike from Iron Horse, which is well balanced and available in a variety of sizes. The suspension is notable for the way in which it has an impact on the overall quality of the pedaling performance.

When riding lower-end bikes, you may find that the frame does not always work to your advantage, which can be discouraging.

Caters For Men and Women

Finding a good mountain bike for female riders has always been a challenge for me, and if you are looking for one that is expressly intended for them, you may have to explore a bit farther. Fortunately, there are some options. Iron Horse, on the other hand, has created bicycles that are suitable for both men and women. This will make it easy for you to choose a high-quality bicycle for your wife. The brand also values the importance of family relationships and makes an effort to accommodate them.

However, it is possible that this is not the greatest bike for professional events.

Versatility is key

One thing we noticed about this brand is their commitment to making everything as adaptable as possible. The bicycles are built for multipurpose use, and you may use them as you wish on a casual or formal basis. The Iron Horse Phoenix 1.2 27.5′′ Mountain Bikeis a fantastic illustration of what it means to be versatile, since it can be used on practically any terrain you choose. Having adaptability is typically associated with having a good drivetrain as well, and this implies that your bike can be utilized on a variety of different terrains.

From time to time, I prefer to spend time with my family on the road rather than in the mountains, which we do occasionally. In this case, the use of a bike like this one makes it possible to do so with the greatest of ease.

Great Weight Limits

Finding a bike that can fit a rider who weighs a great deal is one of the most difficult tasks to complete. In addition to being enjoyable for those who are overweight, it may be a terrific method to get out of the home and shed a few extra pounds for those who are obese. Weight restrictions may vary depending on the bike that you purchase, but they will be about 200 pounds. We have, however, seen them hold users weighing up to 275 pounds. If you are one of the more heavy users, you should not be discouraged from participating.

Affordability

Price is always a factor, and we don’t always have thousands of dollars to spend on the most expensive motorcycles on the market today. This is what distinguishes Iron Horse as a fantastic brand. The brand does provide high-quality bicycles at a reasonable price. When it comes to pricing, we would not advocate purchasing a bike that is less than $400. These bicycles are not as durable as others. Iron Horse will be a wonderful brand to go for if you are just starting out in the sport because they have so many various options and bikes to choose from.

The Breakdown – Drawbacks

The handlebars are a touch too narrow for our taste, despite the fact that they are designed to accommodate bigger users. If you have larger shoulders than the average person, you may want a wider handlebar to accommodate you. Fortunately, they may be customized to meet your specific requirements. Those who are smaller in stature may not have any difficulties and should enjoy exceptional comfort.

Frame Stiffness could be an issue

In the case of a handful of these bicycles, the frames are fairly rigid. Especially if you’re going over difficult terrain, this might be a bit unpleasant. While these frames may not be the most comfortable option for those who want something that will get them through any terrain, they will certainly do the job. Another point to consider is that replacing the frame might be a difficult process. Consider trying one of their models to see if it meets your requirements before making your final decision.

Bottom Line – Iron Horse Mountain Bike Review

Even if Iron Horse were the ideal brand, it would be difficult to argue. It’s true that they have a few of problems that need to be addressed. Despite this, we urge that you give the brand a try anyhow. They have several excellent-quality bicycles for sale, and their prices are not prohibitively expensive. You will never be stranded for an extended period of time due to a lack of easily available replacement components. We would like to express our gratitude to you for taking the time to read this post.

We sincerely hope that you have found it to be beneficial, and we would welcome any feedback you may have. If you have ever ridden one of the bikes, please share your experience with us in the comment box below.
