Black Horses for sale on ehorses
When it comes to black horses, there’s almost a supernatural quality about them, and, like black cats, a certain mythology has arisen around them. Many people feel that a black horse possesses mystery and depth since so many renowned fictitious horses are black, or perhaps it is just because so many famous fictional horses are black. Because black is one of the base coat colors in horses, it may be found in a wide variety of breeds and kinds. Despite this, many people believe it is difficult to discover a pure black horse because some of them are extremely darkbrown in color when seen from a closer distance.
Characteristics of Black Horses
Despite their coloration, there is something unique about black horses that has something to do with their genetic make-up. Black, like red, is one of the fundamental hues, and it is the activity of other genes on the black foundation coat that results in the production of bay, which in turn results in the production of buckskin when the cream gene is impacted. This is also the reason why bay and buckskin horses have black patches (black manes, tails, and lower legs), which adds to their allure by making them appear more exotic.
To put it another way, without the black foundation coat, we would not have some of the other gorgeous hues, nor would we be able to see black and white patterns on horses and ponies.
Black Horses: The Best Breeds for this Color
Many breeds of horses are renowned for having all-black horses. Friesians, with their long, flowing manes and tails and their lofty head carriage, are in high demand for television and film work in the United Kingdom. They, like Fell Ponies and Dale Ponies, have primarily black coats, however unlike Friesians, who are usually this color, they can have a variety of coat colors, such as bay, gray, and roan, depending on the breed. History has given names to various breeds based on their coloration.
Aside from theMérens Pony of the Pyrenees and theMurgesehorse of Apulia, there are several more beautiful all-black varieties to be found.
The Iberian breeds also have a large number of black horses; theMenorquinone is the only breed that is ever this color.
The fact that some ponies and horses, including breeds as divergent as the Eriskay pony and theLippizaner, are born with black coats and gradually lighten as they get older is a noteworthy facet of black coloration.
Famous Black Horses
Over the decades, many black horses have fascinated and captivated humans! They are typically connected with monarchs and militaristic leaders, among other things. Alexander the Great’s horse, the famed Bucephalus, was reported to have been a black horse with a white mark on his forehead in the shape of an ox-head, according to legend. According to some accounts, it is the ox-head brand, which is the mark of a noble horse. Black Beauty, the most famous fictional horse in the world, relates his own narrative in Anna Sewell’s best-selling novel, which has sold millions of copies worldwide.
- Despite the fact that he was a fictitious character, his narrative had an impact on the establishment of improved working horse circumstances.
- In real life, black horses have also shown the ability to hypnotize people.
- While riding Burmese, a black mare that had been gifted to her by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Queen Elizabeth II was a regular participant in the Trooping of the Colour ritual for a long time.
- For her frequent rides in Windsor Park, the Queen still prefers a black horse, or rather a pony, which she rides on a daily basis.

Facts About Black Horses
Black is, in our opinion, one of the most stunning horse colors available. The gleaming black horse with its newly combed mane and tail has a regal aura. It also sticks out since it is one of the more uncommon hues among a sea of bays and greys, making it stand out even more. A horse can be born with a black coat in one of two ways, depending on its genetic makeup. When a horse possesses two black coat genes, it is referred to as being homozygous. Heterozygous means that it has one red coat gene and one black coat gene in the same chromosome.
A bay foal can never be produced by two black horses.

10 Amazing Black Stallion Horse Facts
Many individuals were inspired to become horse owners as a result of their encounter with the Black Stallion. On the island, Alec, the protagonist, is stranded and forced to survive on the island’s savage terrain. Alec’s lone partner is a stallion from the Arabian breed. Here are some interesting facts about the legendary stallion that has captured the hearts of so many people over the years. The film was released in 1979 and was based on a 1941 children’s story by Walter Farley. 1. Throughout the course of the film, four horses were employed to play the stallion.
- Cass Ole and Fae Jur were the individuals in question.
- Although he had a star painted on his forehead and white legs that had to be painted black between takes, Cass Ole is the character that appears the most in the film.
- It is possible for some people to be studly all of the time, while others may be laid back and never act that way.
- 2.
- There is one particularly memorable sequence in the film, in which Black shields Alec from a snake that they had discovered on the beach.
- Stallions are capable of displaying a wide range of behaviors and playing styles.
- Others want to spend their entire lives in the companionship of a herd.
In the film’s sequel, the horse that the filmmakers desired makes an appearance.
He was an Egyptian racehorse, and it was he who the filmmakers had originally intended to cast as the film’s star in the first version of the script.
Currently, many people believe that stallions are produced primarily for speed or for appearance, but there is much more to the breeding process than this.
In certain cases, a clever horse is preferable over a swift one as a stud prospect.
None of the black stallions that were brought in for shooting were capable of swimming.
Upon arrival, the producers were taken aback to see that the horses were cream-colored instead of the expected black.
Because a horse is reluctant to swim, it does not necessarily imply that it does not know how to swim properly.
During swimming, stallions propel their legs forward in the same manner as they would when trotting.
The young man who portrayed Alec auditioned for the job because he wanted to take swim lessons.
Reno grew up on a horse farm in Colorado, so he was familiar with the trials of riding stallions as well as the rewards that come with the experience.
When handling horses, the handler must be perceived as the “dominant stallion” of the herd, and disobeying the stallion’s commands is a surefire way to be challenged by the horse.
Stallions may be found in all horse breeds.
In order to be eligible, they must adhere to both the phenotypic and the conformation of their respective breed.
The hue of their coats can be any acceptable color that is currently available within their breed for registration purposes.
Stallions are organized into a hierarchical structure.
This is due to the fact that horses are a “pack” animal.
In most herds, the mare, or the female horse, is in charge of determining when the herd will migrate, and the stallion’s responsibility is to ensure that all of the stragglers are able to keep up with the intended movement.

This belief system is most likely a result of one of the most frequent management approaches for stallions when they are used in a domesticated setting.
Stallions are kept segregated as a way of management.
The reality is that some stallions may stay together in bachelor herds for virtually their whole lives, which is remarkable.
The natural instinct of stallions is to be hostile against persons they do not know.
The stallions may kick at each other, lunge or bite at one other’s necks or chests, or one of them may even attempt to flee from the arena altogether.
On set, most of the hostility was gone as a result of this.
Stallions require frequent physical activity.
It’s also beneficial to the health of the other stallions in the herd.
Because the film was such an authentic experience, these Black Stallion horse facts are intertwined with the facts from the film to form a cohesive whole. Knowing these things will make it simpler for you to grasp what these horses desire and how they will treat you with respect.

On March 6, 1969, Cass Ole, a Texan-bred Arabianstallion, passed away on June 29, 1993. In his early years as a show horse, he won the National Championship in Arabian Western Pleasure in 1975, the National Reserve Championship in Arabian Ladies Side Saddle in 1976, and the U.S. Top Ten in Arabian English Pleasure in 1975 and 1976, among other honors. During his seven-year show career, he earned more than 50 championships and more than 20 Reserve Championships, and he was named the King Saud Trophy winner by the American Horse Show Association, which recognizes the top performer in the sport (nowUnited States Equestrian Federation).
The Black Stallion
A blackArabian to portray the role of The Black in the future film was sought after by horse trainers Glenn Randall and his sons J.R. and Corky Randall, who went on an international quest. They discovered Cass Ole at his ranch near San Antonio, and his demeanor and appearance were a good match for the character. In order to comply with his owners’ request that he not be used in the running or swimming scenes, three more horses were acquired for usage in those parts, as well as stunts. Cass Ole and his fellow horse performers trained at a ranch in California for many weeks before to the start of the filming.
- In his original state, Cass Ole was a black horse, but he was marked with white marks on his pasterns and a white star on his forehead, which were dyed black for his movie appearance.
- The horse was born at the Donoghue Arabian Horse Farm in Goliad, Texas, which was owned by the late Louise and Gerald Donoghue.
- When it came to selling stallions for females to display, the Donoghue’s were normally reticent, but the young rider was such an amazing horsewoman that they made an exception.
- In the two films, his mane was somewhat augmented, as can be seen in the images below.
- While he did have a lengthy mane typical of his breed, it was only approximately as long as the width of his neck at its natural length, which is the normal maximum length that a horse’s mane will develop when not carefully maintained, according to the breed standard.
Growing a horse’s mane over its natural length necessitates keeping it in braids and conditioning it on a regular basis. It takes at least a year for a horse’s mane to reach a considerable length, and, like people, some horses’ manes simply will not grow past a certain length.
Later life
Cass Ole gained a celebrity after the release of the two films, appearing at fundraisers and special events to be appreciated by the crowds of people. In 1980, at the International Horse Show in Washington, D.C., he was presented with the Humane Society Award for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He paid a visit to the White House and was in attendance during President Reagan’s inauguration. He has performed in Italy, Sardinia, Algeria, and Morocco, among other places. His most recent concert took place in the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington, and was well received.
He stood atstud on his family’s ranch in Texas, where he sired more than 130 foals.
Casse Ole died in 1993 after suffering from acute colitis for a long period of time.

- 0 comments Over 35 years have passed since Walter Farley’s timeless story of Alec, a young boy shipwrecked on an isolated island with a wild Arabian stallion, was brought to life on screen for the first time in The Black Stallion film.
However, no matter how many times you’ve watched this classic film, we’ve discovered some interesting facts about it that may surprise you.
One of the reasons why Kelly Reno, the film’s 12-year-old star, originally accepted the role of Alec was so that he could learn to swim.
2.
Reno grew up on a ranch in southern Colorado, where he still lives.
In addition to Toronto and Sardinia, the film was shot at Rome’s Cinecittà Studios, which is located in the city’s historic center.
It took three weeks to complete the filming.
Throughout the course of the film, four main horses were used to portray the Black.
Cass Ole is a fictional character created by author Cass Ole in the 1990s.
5.
His independent streak and fondness for faking fights made him the obvious choice for the scenes in which Alec befriends the Black on the beach, as well as the scenes in which the stallion protects him from a cobra, among others.
Originally, the producers wanted the Egyptian racehorse El Mokhtar to play the title role, but his owners refused to budge on their demands.
When it came time to film the swimming scenes, none of the actor horses were comfortable in water, so the crew brought horses from France’s Camargue region, which contains Western Europe’s largest river delta, to use in the scenes.
The Black Stallion proved to be a cash cow for American Zoetrope, the production company that made the film.
9.
It is possible that Coppola was more invested than he admitted in the film’s success because a typhoon destroyed the set of his Apocalypse Now film the previous year, leaving him severely behind schedule and over budget.
Francis’s father, Carmine Coppola, is responsible for the film’s beautiful score.
Alas, the Vietnam War flick won the day.
Mickey Rooney was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Henry Dailey, a retired jockey who helps Alec train the Black for the movie’s final race.

Rice One of the most critically acclaimed films from 1979,The Black Stallion, was based on the classic children’s tale written by Walter Farley in 1941.
He wanted to release the picture as the first film in a series of classical children’s films.
Coppola enlisted the help of Carroll Ballard, a former UCLA classmate, to helm the first part, which resulted in The Black Stallion.
One of his first films, Harvest (1967), was a documentary that was nominated for an Academy Award ® for Best Documentary.
When the film begins, the youngster and his father are on their way to a vacation destination when a calamity strikes.
They are both washed up on a desolate island, where they must overcome their initial hostility in order to forge a close friendship with one another.
The horse, on the other hand, flees away, and the child ultimately tracks the animal down to a farm owned by an ex-racehorse.
Kelly Reno makes his feature film debut as the young, aspiring jockey; he had never performed previously in any media before, and he was not even a lover of movies or television at the time.
After hearing from a friend, Reno persuaded his parents to bring him to Denver for an audition with a movie studio that was looking for boys who could ride horses.
We ended up interviewing several hundred people from all throughout the country and testing 100 of them.” In addition, the saddle-trained Reno was one of the fortunate ones to get selected for a screen test in Los Angeles.
Reno’s only visits outside of Colorado were to North Dakota and Los Angeles for the screen test, thus the film turned out to be quite an experience for him.
‘If I had to pay $10,000 for a McDonald’s cheeseburger in Rome, I would have done it.
In his own words, the director, Carroll Ballard, “would instruct me, ‘This is the way it is.do it,'” recalls the actor.
There were no issues with lines.
And I could use different terms provided the meaning remained the same — Carroll was fine with that.” Reno also conducted all of the stunt stuff himself.
It was only during racetrack sequences where a stunt double was necessary that his character race a thoroughbred at peak speed that a stunt duplicate was employed.
The shipwreck scenario, which took place during a violent storm, was the most difficult moment, according to Reno.
“It was entirely completed at night,” Reno explains.
With moments such as the shipwreck, the horse in this picture, Cass-Ole, was required to perform in a way that only a few other horses have ever been asked to do.
For Roy Rogers, he worked with “Trigger,” “Silver,” and all of the horses in the chariot race scene in Ben-Hur, among others (1959).
He also appeared as a jockey in the films Down the Stretch (1936) and Thoroughbreds Don’t Cry (1937).
Because of his work in the film, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, which he received in 2011.
His involvement was significant for me, as a retired jockey who was enticed out of retirement by a young boy with a beautiful black Arabian horse and aspirations of winning a race.
‘Gee,’ I remarked, ‘I have no idea.’ ‘I’d never done a jockey role before.’ The Black Stallion was a big smash at the box office and garnered a lot of positive reviews.
A sequel, The Black Stallion Returns, was released in 1983, and it is still in theaters.

RECKLESS In addition to being exceptional, the narrative of Reckless is also peculiar.
Moreover, it wasn’t only her fellow Marines who were proud of her — her last promotion to Staff Sergeant came at the hands of Gen.
In the Marine Corps, you can’t get any higher than that.
She immediately gained the admiration and respect of the Marines who served beside her.
Eric Pedersen bought a young Korean child, Kim Huk Moon, $250 out of his own pocket in exchange for her.
Kim’s demise resulted in a victory for the Marines.
Your jaw will drop when you witness her antics when she is ignored or when she is hungry – let’s just say you would never want to leave your food unattended in the first place.
This horse had a mind of her own, not to mention the fact that she was extremely determined.
She would eat anything and everything – but her favorite breakfast items were scrambled eggs and pancakes in the morning, along with a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
Undoubtedly, Reckless’ most memorable moments were during the Battle of Outpost Vegas in March of 1953.
A cannonading and bombing campaign unlike any other had been planned for this specific conflict.
During her journey over the perilous “no man’s land” rice paddies and up the steep 45-degree mountain slopes that led to the firing positions, enemy soldiers were able to spot her.
Maj.
Bobbitt observed, “it’s impossible to convey the exhilaration and morale boost the tiny white-faced mare provided Marines as she outfoxed the Germans and brought desperately needed ammo up the mountain.” Over the course of the five-day conflict, she made 51 excursions from the Ammunition Supply Point to the firing positions in a single day, 95 percent of which she did entirely on her own.
— of ammunition), she walked over 35 miles through open rice paddies and up steep mountains while the enemy was firing at her at a rate of 500 rounds per minute, and she did it all while under fire.
A number of Marines who were stranded while attempting to make their way up to the front line benefited from her protection as well.
What she achieved during this combat not only garnered her the admiration of her fellow soldiers, but it also resulted in her promotion to the rank of Sergeant.
They took better care of her than they did of themselves, throwing their flak jackets over her to protect her when the incoming fire was heavy, putting their own lives in danger in the process.
The narrative of Reckless is unique, and she deserves every medal and accolade she can obtain for her achievements.
