Of course, favorites do not always come out on top, and the Arkansas Derby continued a dominant theme that emerged in the eight crucial 170-point prep races.

The homebred Concert Tour, owned by Gary and Mary West, could have given Essential Quality a run for his money in the betting pools on the first Saturday in May if he had added the Arkansas Derby to his 3-for-3 record for two-time Triple Crown winning trainerBob Baffert, but contending with a fast pace caught up with the Grade 2Rebel Stakeswinner, who finished third and was beaten by less than 2 1/2 lengths.

Super Stock Exits Arkansas Derby in ‘Fantastic’ Shape

Super Stocks are available. Following his victory in the Arkansas Derby (G1) on April 10 at Oaklawn Park, the colt’s Hall of Fame trainer, Steve Asmussen, stated on April 11 that the horse was in “excellent” condition. A flight to Kentucky is slated for early this week, according to Asmussen. The Dialed In colt will join the trainer’s string atChurchill Downs to begin prepping for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve (G1), which takes place May 1. In the 1 1/8-mile event, Super Stock won by 2 1/2 lengths under Ricardo Santana Jr., giving Asmussen a record-tying sixth Arkansas Derby triumph.

  • Since he was acquired and co-owned by Asmussen’s father, Keith, 79, and got his early training at the family’s El Primero Training Center in Laredo, Texas, Super Stock is expected to be one of the Kentucky Derby’s feel-good tales.
  • Keith Asmussen, a 22-year-old business administration major at the University of Texas, is set to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in May.
  • Despite the fact that Steve Asmussen is on the verge of being the most successful trainer in North American history, he has failed to win the Kentucky Derby in his 21 attempts.
  • Photo courtesy of Coady Photography (from left to right): In the stands at Oaklawn Park, Marilyn, Steve, and Keith Asmussen celebrate Super Stock’s win in the Arkansas Derby.
  • Super Stock finished a disappointing fourth behind Concert Tour in the Rebel Stakes (G2) on March 13 at Oaklawn Park in his 3-year-old racing debut.
  • “My father told me going into the race that this horse had been advertising himself,” Keith Asmussen said.
  • In Asmussen’s opinion, fractions of this nature will help a great deal.

Super Stock, a graduate of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale who sold for $70,000, won for the second time in eight career appearances, bringing his total earnings to $804,762.

“He’s becoming a man.

Charlatan’s connections have filed an appeal against that disqualification.

It was a family matter, after all.

“I can’t even remember the last time we were all at the same race,” an emotional Asmussen remarked after winning the Oaklawn stakes for the 95th time in his professional career.

Each of the first four finishers (100-40-20-10) in the Arkansas Derby received 170 points, which counted toward starting eligibility for the Kentucky Derby.

Essential Quality, the juvenile champion and winner of Oaklawn’s Southwest Stakes (G3) and Toyota Blue Stakes (G2) this year, has 140 points and is ranked first in the world.

The horse Concert Tour, trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert, will be shipped to Churchill Downs, but Baffert isn’t sure if the horse will be entered in the Kentucky Derby.

Baffert stated in a text message sent early Sunday afternoon that the Concert Tour had performed admirably and that it will sail to Kentucky on April 12 or April 13 as scheduled.

“In Churchill, I don’t want to run unless I know it’s going to be a really exciting race.

I didn’t really want a difficult race to come out of it, but we were still determined to win.

You gain a better understanding of your horse and determine whether or not there is room for development.

As soon as the Arkansas Derby was over, Cox stated that he would talk with John Ed Anthony of Hot Springs, Caddo River’s owner/breeder, before making a decision on whether or not to enter the horse in the Kentucky Derby.

John Ed and devise a game plan for the team.

We’ll talk to the boss about it and see what he has to say. More than anything, it will be interesting to observe how he recovers over the following several days.” Cox also teaches the Essential Quality program.

Super Stock Rallies to Capture Arkansas Derby

It was the ultimate prep of them all, the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1) at Oaklawn Park, that brought the pursuit for Kentucky Derby berths to a close after a string of qualifying races that began in September. There was just one horse standing tall as the clear-cut favorite for the Woodford Reserve (G1), which took place on May 1 and was presented by Woodford Reserve. Only one horse was absent from the last race on April 10th, which took place in Arkansas. When 3-10 favorite Concert Tour and Caddo River engage in a high-speed battle, the stage is set for 12-1 shot Super Stock’s victory in the Arkansas Derby not only virtually insured that Godolphin’s unbeaten 2-year-old championEssential Quality, the winner of the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G2), will be the favorite in the Run for the Roses.

  1. Aside from Essential Quality, who is currently atop the Kentucky Derby tally with 140 points, the only other favorite from that set of races managed to pull off a victory.
  2. Essential Quality finished second, beaten by a little more than 2 1/2 lengths, and he finished third in the Arkansas Derby.
  3. He’s a young horse, so be kind with him “Baffert also sent out Hozier, who finished sixth and last following a runner-up result in the Rebel, who finished sixth and last.
  4. He (Hozier) was drained of energy too soon.
  5. You’ve been beaten and are attempting to figure out what happened.
  6. Sometimes, a loss is more instructive than a triumph in terms of learning.
  7. I’m not going to make any excuses for him at this point.” Every detail came together perfectly for Super Stock, a son of Dialed In who was owned by Erv Woolsey and Keith Asmussen, the father of Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen and a winner at the Breeders’ Cup.
  8. In a statement, Steve Asmussen said, “It is a genuinely wonderful occasion to have this kind of success with this horse.” Asmussen’s son, Keith, rode Super Stock in each of his first three starts and was onboard for the colt’s maiden victory.

God is a wonderful being.” (L-R) Marilyn Asmussen, Steve Asmussen, and Keith Asmussen celebrate their Arkansas Derby victory in this photo taken by Coady Photography Super Stock, who finished third in both of the first two Kentucky Derby prep races, the Iroquois Stakes (G3) and the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1), earned 100 qualifying points for his victory and moved up from 31st place on Saturday morning to third place by nightfall with 109 points.

  • Super Stock was the first horse to win the Iroquois Stakes (G3) in the history of the race.
  • “We never, ever imagined that we would be able to compete in racing at this level.” “To witness your kid achieve success in whatever he chooses to do with his life is the greatest satisfaction a parent could ever hope to get.
  • Cox said he will consult with owner John Ed Anthony before making a decision on whether to steer the son of Hard Spun toward the Kentucky Derby or the Preakness Stakes, which will take place on May 15.
  • “He started a blistering pace and was passed by Concert Tour in the last stretch, but he came back to finish second in a tremendous effort,” Cox said.
  • In the Rebel, it was Concert Tour that had the early lead, with Caddo River chasing behind him until fading and finishing sixth.
  • A late charge by Super Stock and Ricardo Santana Jr.
  • “It (set up) brilliantly from a tactical standpoint,” Asmussen remarked.

Super Stock, a crossbred developed by Pedro Gonzalez and P.

With Saturday’s victory, he surpassed that total by a significant margin, collecting $804,762.

2020 Arkansas Derby results: Charlatan and Nadal give trainer Bob Baffert two wins in one day at Oaklawn

As a result of the Kentucky Derby’s relocation to September, the Arkansas Derby filled the void on this Saturday’s schedule of Grade 1 stakes horse racing. However, despite the fact that the date and atmosphere of the race were unusual, at least one of the outcomes might be described as a return to normalcy. Charlatan finished first in the Division 1 race after closing as the favorite at 2/5 odds, giving famed trainer Bob Baffert his sixth victory at Oaklawn in the previous nine years. It was an easy win for the horse, who finished in 1:48.49 and received 100 points toward the Kentucky Derby qualifying period.

Wells Bayou won the Division 1 race after exploding out of the gate at blistering pace.

Baffert also has two horses in the running for the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in September.

The race was just another indication of how the sport is attempting to go forward while the coronavirus outbreak continues, with no spectators in attendance and a bare minimum crew that was wearing protective equipment.

The Friday Show: Adding An Asterisk To An Arkansas Derby Winner

Despite a failed drug test for lidocaine, Charlatan’s victory in the Arkansas Derby was reinstated by the Arkansas Racing Commission. Since the Bob Baffert-trained Gamine and Charlatan won races at Oaklawn Park – Gamine in an allowance race and Charlatan in a division of the Grade 1, $1-million Arkansas Derby – and were later disqualified after post-race drug tests revealed the presence of the banned substance lidocaine, it has been almost a year since the horses were disqualified. Those disqualifications, as well as a 15-day punishment imposed on Baffert by the Oaklawn board of stewards, were both challenged.

In this week’s Friday Show, Natalie Voss, editor-in-chief of The Paulick Report, who followed the 15-hour proceedings online and provided coverage of the commissioners’ vote, speaks with Ray Paulick to discuss the case and the challenges brought by the Hall of Fame trainer and his attorneys to the drug testing process and stewards’ decisions.

After that, Ray is joined by Bloodstock editor Joe Nevills, who discusses our Star of the Week as well as his Toast to Vino Rosso and one of the first-crop foals sired by the Breeders’ Cup Classic-winning son of Curlin, among other things.

Horse Race of the Week: Best Bets for the 2021 Arkansas Derby

The following winners were correctly predicted by Frankie Taddeo, our Senior Gambling Analyst and Vegas Insider, over the course of 2020 and into 2021. Frankie Taddeo has shared his horse racing handicapping formula with SI Gambling, which has been successful in predicting the winners of the following races: Exacta (8/1) and Trifecta (36/1) in the Travers Stakes. Exacta (12/1), Trifecta (60/1), and Superfecta (443/1) were all winners in the Blue Grass Stakes. Frizette Stakes- Exacta (Frizette Stakes- Exacta) Exacta (31/1) in the ColdDesi Arnaz Stakes Trifecta (72/1) in the Ontario Derby.

  1. On Saturday, the “Race of the Week” presented by SI Gambling will take us to the Oaklawn Park Racetrack.
  2. The prestigious event serves as the penultimate Kentucky Derby prep race, with the winner getting 100 Kentucky Derby qualifying points for the next Kentucky Derby.
  3. Although this is a highly competitive race, the numbers from my model are screaming out of the page, indicating that a horse we backed in the Rebel Stakes is once again the horse to beat in this event.
  4. Concert Tour, who has gone 3 for 3 in his young career, comes into this race off a convincing 4-length victory over numerous returning competitors in the San Vicente Stakes in February, and is coming off a strong win in the San Vicente Stakes in February.
  5. In the two races before his fifth-place result in the Rebel, he had been aesthetically outstanding, winning both of his previous races by a combined margin of more than 19 lengths.
  6. Oaklawn Park is providing the odds.
  7. Let’s take a closer look at the odds and then go a little further.

Arkansas Derby (G1)

Oaklawn Park is a horse racing track. Date: April 10, 2021, on a Saturday. $1,000,000 in cash is on the table. Distance: 11.8 miles, on dirt roads 12th place in the race Posting Time: 6:41 p.m. Eastern Standard Time / 3:41 p.m. Pacific Time PST HORSES TO KEEP AN EYE ON: Post numbers, names, and odds are listed in the following order: 5 (1) Concert Tour- The formula rests firmly on Bob Baffert’s entry, who will be seeking to keep his unbeaten streak alive heading into next month’s Kentucky Derby.

Notably, Concert Tour, who held a five-pound weight advantage against Caddo River in the Rebel Stakes, will now carry the same weight in Saturday’s Arkansas Derby.

Three-year-old Hozier (3/1), a son of Pioneer of the Nile for trainer Bob Baffert, has improved his speed numbers and finished first and second in his past two races (1-1-0).

I’ll be using him for all of my exacta and trifecta tickets in the future.

It will be necessary for this son of Hardspun, who has already won a race on this track, to be more forwardly positioned than he was in the Rebel Stakes if he is to have any chance of defeating Concert Tour in the rematch. Rankings for the Arkansas Derby Formula are listed below.
