This horse won the Kentucky Derby in 1913, despite being a long shot to do so. In fact, at 91-1, it was the longest shot of any of the winners. Medina Spirit, the horse that won the Kentucky Derby last year, has died of a heart attack
Medina Spirit passed away while working out in California on Monday morning, according to reports.
- After winning the Kentucky Derby in May, the 3-year-old thoroughbred was found to have failed a drug test. According to NBC News, the horse’s trainer Bob Baffert believes the horse may have had a heart attack while in training at Santa Anita Park. According to reports, the “entire barn” was heartbroken by the tragedy. “Medina Spirit was a tremendous champion, a member of our family who was adored by everybody, and we are truly mourning his loss,” Baffert said of the deceased horse in a statement.
