Falcon Ridge Ranch's premier Equine Therapy Program is a step above the rest. At the heart of Falcon Ridge is their premier Equine Therapy Program. The Clinical Director, a Level III EAGALA Certified Therapist, horse specialist, and other licensed therapists present activities and challenges that bring a new light of life and problems. Special Equestrian Since 1952, when Polio victim and rider, Lis Hartel won an Olympic Silver medal, therapeutic riding has devoloped worldwide as therapy for individuals with a variety of physical and/or mental disabilities. Jim Brady is currently a spokesman for therapeutic riding and he has been riding since his recovery from a gunshot wound he received during the assasination attempt on President Reagan in 1991. Theraputic riding programs exist in every state under the guidance of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA).
Since 1979, non-profit Project Ride Inc. has offered therapeutic horseback riding instruction to children and adults with special needs. Project R.I.D.E. Inc. is fully accredited by NARHA, a non-profit organization founded in 1969 which is dedicated to supporting horseback riding in a safe, educational and enjoyable manner for disabled persons. NARHA offers training seminars, provides strict standards of excellence and safety, and certifies programs and instructors to teach riding to the disabled.
